Using Tiffany Settings with Commercial Hand Press

Here is a quick-and-dirty list of instructions for using the Tiffany Settings in the Commercial Hand Press. These instructions are for 'legs-up' method which allows you to see where you are placing the stone from the front of the fabric.

Adjusting the Bottom Die (you will need to do this each time you change fabric thicknesses, i.e. t-shirt vs. denim):

  • Unscrew the bottom height adjustment so that it is below the plane of the bottom arm
  • Place the spring loaded die (the one with the point) in the bottom hole of the press
  • Place the die with the hole in the center in the upper arm on the press
  • Secure the top die by tightening the bolt in the upper arm
  • Place a Tiffany Setting with the Legs facing up on the bottom Die
  • Place your fabric over the bottom die
  • Bring the top arm down all the way
  • Close the gap by hand adjusting the bottom adjuster. The gap should allow the legs to bend, but not crush the stone.

Securing each stone:

  • Make the adjustment as recommend above
  • Place a 16ss Tiffany Setting with the Legs facing up on the bottom Die
  • Place your fabric over the bottom die
  • Place a stone at or near its final location on the fabric (you will have some time to move it around)
  • Bring the upper arm down all the way . The stone should be secure with legs about half-way up the site, without being crushed.
